Weddings and other events almost always fall on a weekend. Why? Because weekends allow guests to attend the special events without having to think of work or school. It’s actually a free day for most of us…Expect a huge turnout if an event falls on a weekend. It’s not surprising why hotel and church bookings on weekeends are aplenty. We all love weekends. Carefree days…rest days…those are the weekends of our lives!
But for us in the wedding industry, Monday is considered to be our rest day… Try to submit your church requirements on a Monday, and all you’ll see is a closed door saying ” CLOSED ON MONDAYS “ Musicians who huff till the wee hours of Saturday and Sunday will be sleeping late on Monday… So with the other suppliers who worked till the last supply of blood kept pumping in their circulatory system to give their best efforts the night before . Think of it this way…Monday is our Saturday. To make it even more confusing, we can add 1 more day, skip another day or two until it is our rest day again. We do not sleep on the job so allow us to dream of our rest days once in a while. : )
Just as we are in awe of weekends and rest days, we see rainy days as threats to successful events.
When it rains, it all becomes a different ballgame.
To some guests, attendance becomes a matter of choice. Guests who plan to attend events or have RSVP’d may decide not to attend the event anymore. All because of rain. The guest list somehow becomes leaner and the excuses become longer.
Suppliers, on the other hand, do not have that choice. We have to deliver. The rain should not hamper our operations. It is on a sad note that we saw how rain could make the world stand still. During the last typhoon Ondoy, Metro Manila saw the flooding of great cities. Several events were cancelled. Most of the guests were stranded. A large number of suppliers risked their lives to reach the venue. We heard stories of how some suppliers stayed and finished their jobs while their homes were in 20 ft deep of water. They stayed on because they were there to man their posts even if it meant going back home without salvaging any of their belongings. We salute our fellow suppliers for their professionalism.
At a time we knew many events would fall, came rain… For years, the only thing that has kept us from winning perfection is rain… When we plan events, we don’t keep rain from ruining our plan. We live for rain. We fear for events laced with rain.. Our hearts stop at typhoon signals. It’s something we have to contend with. But God has always been good to us. He gives us raindrops just enough to keep our heads down and our hands clasped in prayer. He lets us see nature take its course. As our events come close, we see Him in all the things that we do and we believe that rain or shine, we will have a ONE FINE DAY!
